Yes! the Poker Run is happening! No, I
haven't shared details. Sorry, still
decompressing from the CDE....
Poker Run will be 11/14/09 - Fair
weather only, no rain date. (You are the
judge if you will enjoy playing in the
predicted weather!) If it is snowing,
the predicted high is below 40 degrees,
or it is raining, I will NOT be there
either!
Fun Stuff! -
Rules of the Game -
- Follow the arrows along the trails
- When you come to a 2 liter bottle tied
to a tree, draw the top card from the
deck.
- Bring back 5 cards from the 5
different locations.
- Best poker hands win.
- Last, but most important, enjoy the
day on the trails with your favorite
equines!
Logistics -
Meet and hitch to start driving about
10:00.
Break for Potluck Lunch about noon.
Bring a dish to share, your beverage of
choice, and chairs. Andy Kincaid will
fire up the grill, and I will try to
borrow a generator for those that want
to bring hot items.
Awards - after I get a chance to eat.
Park towards the outdoor arena in the
north gravel lot, or, if the ground is
dry, between there and the dressage
arena.
The trails will start and end "down the
road" between Rattlesnake and Cordwood.
A club member can lead the way, if
needed. Lunch will also be in that
area. Horses may be unhitched and
tethered to the Rattlesnake obstacle
during lunch and awards. I will try to
have a shuttle for lunches, chairs, etc.
Club membership is not required to
participate, but please bring safe and
reliable animals. (Green and calm is
OK,)
Poker Hands are $5.00 each. Multiple
runs and hands may be made, or hands are
not required, your choice. Please stay
on the marked route, because most trails
are not wide enough for two way traffic,
and the trails intersect at many points.
Drivers and riders are welcome.
Navigators are requested in each
carriage - cards will be posted on the
LEFT side of the trail. Trail markers
will be on the right.
Mud and puddles are quite likely, but
I'll try to keep to the drier trails.
There are several "low water" creek
crossings, that are typically dry.
Poison Ivy is everywhere, but has been
mown down on the trails.
Official stuff -
Helmets are strongly recommended for
everyone, and required for children.
Proof of negative coggins required for
each animal.
Children must be accompanied by a
responsable adult at all times.
Dogs on leash and under control only.
DO NOT remove the bridle from a hitched
animal, or leave a hitched animal
unattended.
Other Questions? Call me at 918-596-1269
during business hours or 918-437-2676 in
the evenings. Please leave a phone
number and the best (or worst) time to
reach you.
I'll be marking the trails on the 11th.
If you have the day free, come out and
help.
Hope to see lots of folks on the 14th!
